Spicebird Beta 0.7.1 Released!

Spicebird is a collaboration client that provides integrated access to email, contacts, calendaring and instant messaging in a single application. It provides easy access to various web services while retaining all the advantages of a desktop application. The application is based on projects like Thunderbird, Lightning and Telepathy and adds more functionality and integration among its components.

This release is a bug fix release with many small features additions. Changes include launch fixes, memory fixes, better support for non-English text, more chat preferences and more add-ons.

For a detailed description of this release, see the release notes.

add on??

How come the link to the add ons is not working?

Importing contacts,etc

This email program appearantly works only if converting from outlook. try to import contacts and it gives no options other than from outlook. Useless otherwise.

T H A N K S

Just what I was looking for. I like it a lot and will continue to use it.
Thank you very much for this. Your hard work is appreciated.
It would be great, if background colors/picture could be set for the main page.
I sure hope Spicebird will see continued development. Maybe memory usage is a little bit high

Download link broken?

Hi guys -

11/24/09: The download link:
http://files.spicebird.org/pub/spicebird.org/spicebird/releases/0.7.1/wi...
appears to be broken. Any ETA on that? Am anxious to try out the new version.

Thanks

it looks like pretty good

it looks like pretty good soft!! i am using linux mint, and thunderbird. Spicebird is really good, but i switched back to thunderbird, because of lightning problem. i can’t import task and calendar information. And GUI is a bit strange. It’s not done yet, but really good way, really good idea!!!

Event integration to inbox?

I use lightning with thunderbird, however I recently installed karmic koala and found that dependencies for google calender and lightning were broken and I could not connect to gcal from within thunderbird. Spicebird does this no problem in jaunty, but I have gotten so used to seeing my daily events right next to my inbox that I can't go without that feature. Please create an option to view daily events to the right of the inbox as well as in the calendar tab.

Great client!

After using Thunderbird for a while, I decided to look for another email client. Thunderbird is sluggish at times, but this one I've had no problems with so far. I've been using it for a couple of weeks now and it has only crashed 1 time. Please keep developing Spicebird. It's a winner!

Exciting but Disappointing

Exciting that my final calendar software is right here.

Disappointing that only a beta release had been released for quite a long period. Has the development/testing work been stopped?

Hope a formal release be discharged soon.

If only it would install...

Installation attempt on Linux Mint 7 (x64) fails with Error:
"./spicebird-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"
(libgtk2.0 and libgtk2.0-common are properly installed and the file libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 is present)

Installation attempt on Ubuntu 8.10 (AMD64) fails with Errors:
/usr/lib/gio/modules/libgioremote-volume-monitor.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
Failed to load module: /usr/lib/gio/modules/libgioremote-volume-monitor.so
/usr/lib/gio/modules/libgiogconf.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
Failed to load module: /usr/lib/gio/modules/libgiogconf.so
/usr/lib/gio/modules/libgvfsdbus.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64

Spicebird appears to be a great personal information management solution. But, for now, it looks like I will be forced to use Thunderbird 3.0. I will try to remember to check-back after the bugs are worked out (and hopefully it begins to appear in Debian repositories).

This is THE ONE!!!!

Finally an application that has a sensible integration and flexibility between tasks, calendar and emails as well as the best overview/home page ever!

Please develop this further ASAP! You here have THE Killer App with the potential to beat anything else out there like Thunderbird, Evolution, Outlook, Chandler, you name it...

This is perfect for a project oriented environment!

Shame...

The last released version is from March, 11th. Seems, the development is very slow on this client. Hope, that it will be a good alternate for Thunderbird.

development is too slow

I agree...this is the main reason I have been reluctant to make the switch over from t-bird.

Its too bad, because this has potential to be a killer app...even in a business environment.

I'll try it. Thanks

I'll try it. Thanks

when is ur next release ?

Hey.. when is this last released? I cannt see that info

Someone should really moderate these comments

It is a shame that no one at Spicebird seems to have a look at those comments. They will not see any positive (or negative feedback). Why do I know that no one reads those comments? Well, have a look at all the spam in here.

Huge effort

Spammers have been making a huge effort to fill the website with crap inspite of the methods we used to prevent it. We have been looking for efficient methods, but most of the recent comments seems to have been done manually. There seems to be no other way than manually delete them. This will be taken care of properly from now.

Release date for 1.0?

I second the 'Portable?' comment below entirely. Any news of how long we'll have to wait would be appreciated, great product but I can't wait forever (and it does feel like forever).

Portable?

(1) Sure is a lot of comment spam here.
(2) Spicebird is looking better and better with each new release--looking forward to 1.0 (or, actually, 1.1 or 1.2 or ...:D). Any plans to make a portable version? (I live by portable apps... PortableApps.)
Thanks.

Spicebird 1.0

Hi, when can we expect Spicebird 1.0?

Only Windows and Linux - no Mac?

Support for MacOS coming soon?

Dates

Why aren't there dates on these posts? Date's are important

Why is there an apostrophe in "Date's"?

It is plural, not possessive. Grammar is important too.

Yes indeed...

Information without proper context is useless
