Call for Localizations

Here is yet another way you can get involved with Spicebird development. Bring Spicebird to your language! Instructions to create a localization for Spicebird are now available on the wiki.

The effort involved in the localizing Spicebird to a language is relatively less if Thunderbird and/or Mozilla Calendar are translated to the desired locale. After the initial review and checkin of your localization, you may apply for an SVN account inorder to commit your updates directly to Spicebird source code repository. As Spicebird evolves towards 1.0, the localizations will also need updating.

A new mailing list and a discussion forum for have been setup for discussing localization related issues.

Are you people working on

Are you people working on building some sort of client which helps post your application on mobile devices and synchronize emails/calendars and other data. I see a lot of prospect and growth in that.
I’m currently using a Windows Mobile 6.0, and would love to see your application work on it; also since today’s leading providers which are black berry/active sync have their own limitations. Black Berry as it’s very much dependent on the vendor and Active Sync because of its MS Exchange dependant :).

addons

Would it be easier to add new languages as addons and not a complete download.

And two off subject entries:

1. MozBackup 1.4.8 beta now supports SpiceBird and that has allowed me to switch to SpiceBird as my default client.

2. When will you support skins, would really like to get SpiceBird to match Firefox and the rest of my desktop.

Theoretically, one should be able to create a skin for Spicebird in its current state. Perhaps we should create a sample skin and some documentation.

AFAIK, launchpad is meant for Ubuntu packages only and not independent projects. They also don't contribute back to upstream the translations done for a package. Am I wrong?

Launchpad is supported by Canonial Company, but there are many Opensource Software, which is not only for Ubuntu, (of course, it has Ubuntu)indeed, there is no software only for ubuntu...

you can look at it: Wengophone, emesene, GNOME Go...

I have translated many package, i think, Launchpad makes it easily, i can translate it everytime i want, and it saves in the web, and the others can also help the translation. I do not need translate a package in my own computer, and send it to the maintainer many times, if i correct something.

I do not understand, "They also don't contribute back to upstream the translations done for a package", but i think, as owner you can easily get the translation files, and add them to the Spicebird.

you may try it, and see if it works and suitabe for you.

How about Babelzilla

Have you tried out Babelzilla? It is community of Mozilla translators and the system works well for Mozilla translations. I've been working with a member there to setup Spicebird translations there. If Spicebird is setup there, there will be an advantage of being with the Mozilla translator community.
